Gloria Resign!

Randy David summarizes the damage that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has done to our institutions.
"...it would be a mistake to think this is just about corruption. This is, more importantly, about the long-term damage to a nation’s social institutions.

The damage to government institutions has been the most extensive. Far from being a neutral arbiter of disputes and a source of normative stability, the justice system has become a weapon to intimidate those who stand up to power. Far from being a pillar of public security, the military and the police have become the private army of a gangster regime. Instead of serving as an objective referee in electoral contests, the Commission on Elections has become a haven for fixers who deliver fictitious votes to the moneyed and the powerful. Instead of serving as the steady backbone of public service through successive changes in administration, the government bureaucracy has been turned into a halfway house for political lackeys, misfits and the corrupt. Instead of serving as a check on presidential power, the House of Representatives has become its hired cheering squad.

The erosion of these institutions, no doubt, has been going on for a long time. But their destruction in the last seven years under Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s presidency has been the most comprehensive since 1986...

Thanks to Kabayan for spearheading the blogswarm. If people keep up the pressure, I bet she'll be looking over her shoulders more often.

Gloria Arroyo's:WORST DEAL with CHINA!Sell-out on Spratlys!!!

WORST THAN EVEN THE INFAMOUS ZTE-NBN DEAL!!!

Salient Points:

*Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s hurried trip to China in late 2004 produced a major surprise.

*Manila has given a certain legitimacy to China’s legally spurious “historic claim” to most of the South China Sea.

*The Philippines has made breathtaking concessions in agreeing to the area for study, including parts of its own continental shelf not even claimed by China and Vietnam.

*Some would say it was a sell-out on the part of the Philippines!

*President Arroyo’s agreement with China for a joint seismic study was controversial in several respects. By not consulting other Asean members beforehand, the Philippines abandoned the collective stance that was key to the group’s success with China over the South China Sea.

That could spur the Americans to have her replaced. I have mixed feelings about that.

Chuck,

Former Secretary Josefina Lichauco
pointed out that a contract (ZTE-NBN project) of that nature was required, under the Constitution, to have prior approval of the Monetary Board. The Monetary Board was not consulted and much less its approval asked.

I hope someone, maybe from the Monetary Board, can verify if the board approved the contract. If not, I don't think that this, a violation of the Constitution, is a small matter that can be swept under a rug.

Dude. If you are going to call me names. Find one that at least is offensive. Elitist is a word I do not find offensive at all. I have called myself that more than once.

But I come in peace now, tukayo.

I will no longer make any comments to ruffle anyone's feathers. This entire issue has created much bad blood between people. People who otherwise would get along if not for political differences.

I see no reason why we should develop any more animosity between each other. All this negativity does nobody any good.

I now bow out of this issue altogether. My apologies for any offense I may have done.

Cheers and good luck on your endeavors, bro. I mean it. I'm not being sarcastic.

Carlos, my apologies as well. You're right, animosity just gets in the way . Thanks for the good will and may your tours business continue to prosper.
